The annual April Record Store Day, now in its tenth year, has officially announced the coveted “list” of releases for Saturday, April 22, 2017. Originally conceived in 2007, Record Store Day has since become quite the event and includes participating stores on every continent except Antarctica.
Independent record stores and attendees alike have come to embrace the yearly Spring holiday. Whether it’s a store throwing a party with live acts, or folks lining up early to partake in their own personal scavenger hunt. Bottom line, it’s a great time to meet new people and talk about and enjoy a day that’s all about music.
Releases fall under one of three categories.
Record Store Day Exclusive Releases: Exclusively available on Record Store Day at Record Store Day participating stores. Will not be available anywhere else in the same format.
Record Store Day Limited Run/Regional Focus Releases: Also exclusively available on Record Store Day at Record Store Day participating stores, but may not be distributed nationally, or the quantities of these titles are EXTREMELY limited. 1000 and under and WAY under 1000 in some cases. We felt it was only right to put them on a special sub-list, so that everyone is clear on the odds.
‘Record Store Day First’ Release: These are titles that you can find on Record Store Day at Record Store Day participating stores. So if you’re a fan of the artist, you get first listen. At some point in the future, generally four to six weeks, these titles will be available at other retailers.
You can view the April 2017 Record Store Day list in two ways.
Download a printable PDF version here to bring with you while you shop. View the list online here to see photos and specific details on the releases. Please remember, things change, so it’s a good idea to check the RSD website closer to release date.
As always, keep this in mind when you’re contemplating releases on Record Store Day. ALL STORES MAY NOT ORDER ALL RELEASES. ALL STORES MAY NOT GET EVERYTHING THEY ORDER. Record Store Day titles are limited for a number of reasons, and all in all, that’s a good thing.

About Record Store Day: Conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores in the U.S. and thousands of similar stores internationally. Not only about the music, the goal was and continues to be about promoting and celebrating the independent music store. As a result, those fine folks behind the idea of Record Store Day continue to work with stores, labels, artists, managers and distributors to create special pieces, available only at independent record stores.
